Upcycling Project “Once I was a Messebanner” together with Modefachschule Sigmaringen
Enjoy some insights in one of our latest workshops with fashion design students:
Used trade show banners (“Messebanner”) from the last issue of the Munich Fabric Start trade show were used in this creative workshop which I held together with Jutta Erb at Modefachschule Sigmaringen. The purpose of the workshop ? Well, normally, these banners are trash right after the show. But what is trash ? Can we give this trash a second live ? First of all, it was fun and the young creatives learned a lot by working with these different materials. Some were thicker, some almost transparent, some hard, some very soft, but all of them could be used very well to create something new. And besides gaining experience, it was interesting to see how they started to work in teams and groups, supporting and helping each other. And they really upcyceled the banners to cool outfits. And while watching the following photos: imagine, they only had two days to realize these outits !
The first challenge: Checking out the different materials and designs and trying to find the right banner to work with…
Next step, finding space and possibilities to cut the unusual and voluminous material and to prepare first drafts:
The resluts ? Really cool ! See some impressions here and see the designs live on Modefachschule’s booth during Munich Fabric Start on 2 and 3 September 2025 !
